Emily Ault

These paintings are part of a series - A Year In Queen's Wood.  I began the project in May 2007 and have painted one a week since.  The paintings are done entirely in situ and in all weathers.  I am fascinated by the complexity of woodland; the filtered light, the human gestures of the trees, the shifting depths of colour, the sense of hidden places and hidden stories.  Painting from life in woodland I am painting inside a space and the works are a personal response to this seemingly chaotic living network.

I have an MA in Children's Book Illustration (2006) from Cambridge School of Art and in a previous existence was a television researcher and investigative journalist.
