Michael Cullimore

"Michael Cullimore works chiefly in watercolours, and he belongs loosely to the poetic and visionary strand of British landscape painting which starts with Blake and Samuel Palmer and culminates in the airy surrealism of Paul Nash."

'Cullimore's career brought him twenty years' residence in Wales, first to teach, then as curator of Oriel Bangor.  He has been a full-time painter since 1983, moving from his native Wiltshire to Devon in 1997.  Throughout his exhibiting career he has used literary, philosophical and narrative sources to enrich his poetic landscapes and give symbolic force to his art.  The curator Clive Adams has recently described him as "a man of passion and intellect in the tradition of such visionaries as William Blake and David Jones".'

Michael studied at Swindon School of Art and Goldsmiths College, University of London.  His work is in many public collections including The National Museum of Wales; Salisbury Museum; The Glyn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea; Russell Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, Bournmouth; Gwynned County Council; Devizes Museum; Welsh Arts Council.
